Is using a printer really safe and environmentally friendly?

As a digital inkjet device, printers are not omnipotent for printing any material. As a chemical agent, ink is not safe to be completely non-toxic. In addition, although the volatility of ink is significantly reduced compared to solvent based ink, the description of "VOC zero emissions" promoted by many printer manufacturers is not accurate.

Does that mean that printing is not environmentally friendly and safe? Actually, it's not like that. We know that quantitative changes lead to qualitative changes. It is unscientific to talk about whether a certain chemical product is environmentally friendly and non-toxic without considering the quantity, and the same applies to the ink of printers. From the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) of most inks, it can be seen that benzene and acrylic esters are the main detection objects and also the main substances for ink toxicity characterization. These contents are calibrated in MSDS, and those with contents below the safe value can be considered safe.

In actual use, some users may be concerned about the odor emitted by printers during operation, worrying about whether it is toxic. The odor generated during printing comes from trace amounts of benzene, ozone, and partially cured ink layers that undergo fission after exposure to ultraviolet light. If the production environment has good ventilation or is equipped with exhaust devices, it will not cause harm to the human body.
