Is the printing effect of the "magnetic levitation" printer necessarily good?
Since the emergence of printers, their technological research has been developing towards greater stability and efficiency. From the initial belt drive to the later linear motor drive, the speed of printers has been increasing. The linear motor drive method is increasingly favored by the market due to its advantages such as quietness, fast printing speed, high positioning accuracy, and easy maintenance.
Many printer manufacturers have also begun to apply linear motor driven solutions to their products, such as the "magnetic levitation" flatbed printer equipped with Ricoh Gen6 nozzles. The reason why quotation marks are added here for magnetic levitation is that the linear motor drive scheme is not equivalent to the strict concept of magnetic levitation, but the manufacturer has over decorated the product promotion.
Strictly speaking, in maglev trains, the driven components do not come into direct contact with parts such as guide rails. But the head of the magnetic levitation printer still contacts and cooperates with the linear guide rail through the slider. Although not magnetic levitation, due to the use of linear motors, the printing speed can still reach the 2m/s recommended by most manufacturers, while the speed of conventional belt drives is between 1.3-1.4m/s.
However, the quality of printers is not only determined by speed, but also by the printed graphic and text effects. This involves the overall inkjet control system, such as the nozzle, board, and software. We know that when printers are working, the fast movement speed of the car can affect the accuracy and effect of printing, such as the phenomenon of ink splashing. So even if the machine adopts a linear motor scheme, the speed of the printer must be based on the premise of not affecting the printing effect. For manufacturers who are not very proficient in overall inkjet technology research, even if they use equipment with linear motor solutions, they may not perform as well as those with belt drives.
