The working principle of a handheld printer seems more like a computer mouse than a printer. It is equipped with laser sensors developed by Philips, which track the movement of the printer and sense its location. When the device moves on the surface of paper (or other materials), the sensor continuously emits infrared laser to the surface, and then measures the scattering of the reflected beam. This scattering allows optical sensors to track the speed and direction of the printer relative to the page. Next, the built-in controller matches the position coordinates with the pixel map of the target text (or image) and initiates an algorithm to determine the next pixel to be printed.
Printing a page on a handheld printer only takes 10 seconds. Due to the fact that only a small amount of laser reflection is required to complete the aforementioned motion tracking, it can work on almost any type of surface. As for the printed content, it can be uploaded through Bluetooth, USB, and infrared interfaces. The version with a built-in camera makes it easy to take photos and print on site.
